This is the Holy month when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

It is a complete fast and Muslims are expected to abstain from eating,  drinking and smoking during the hours of fasting.

Shops, cafes and restaurants generally do not open until the fasting hours have ended, but will then stay open late into the night.

In Ramadan, Kerkennah is very quiet during the day, but livens up in the evening after the fast has been broken.

Visitors to Kerkennah should be respectful of Ramadan, and refrain from eating, drinking and smoking in public places during the fasting hours.

In the evening there is a lovely atmosphere as Kerkennians spill out into the streets and cafes and the island becomes lively and bustling
